What is a HEIC file?
HEIC stands for High Efficiency Image Container, the format Apple has used by default on iPhones and iPads since iOS 11. It stores photos at high quality while using roughly half the space of a JPG. The downside is compatibility: many websites, Windows applications, and older devices cannot open HEIC files, so converting them to JPG is often the quickest way to share or upload your photos.
Is JPG the same as JPEG?
Yes. JPG and JPEG are the same format, just with different file extensions. JPEG (Joint Photographic Experts Group) is the original name, and ".jpg" exists only because early versions of Windows limited file extensions to three letters. Whether a file ends in .jpg or .jpeg, it is identical, and this converter produces standard JPEG images that open on every device and platform.
Why convert HEIC to JPG?
JPG is the most widely supported image format in the world. Converting your HEIC photos to JPG means they will open on any computer, upload to any website or form, attach to any email, and import into any photo editor without complaints. It is the safest format for sharing photos with clients, printers, or anyone who is not on a recent Apple device.
